Even though economic conditions have improved slightly in the past few months, America is still in a recession, and unemployment remains historically high. So what are the Democrats doing? Raising taxes. The health care bill has billions of dollars in new taxes, and the Bush tax cuts are set to expire in 2011, raising taxes even more. On top of that, a value added tax and transaction taxes are on the table.
Raising taxes now, during an economic downturn, is reckless and irresponsible. Increasing taxes on high-income earners, small businesses, investors, and U.S. businesses with foreign operations hurts the economy and hinders job growth. Federal revenues actually decrease rather than increase.
As our next congressman, Ray will work to:
- Repeal the tax increases in the health care law, and oppose all proposals to further raise and impose new taxes;
- Make permanent the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts for all taxpayers;
- Abolish the death tax; and
- Cut, rather than increase, capital gains taxes.
